Chief Communications Officer, Poway Unified School District

Christine develops, coordinates, and implements award-winning strategic communication and public relations planning and executive communications to advance the school district’s vision, mission and values.

 

  • Manages department staff to ensure effective and proactive media, community, crisis, and public relations and engagement to support 39 schools, 36,000 students, and 5,000 employees

  • Leads communication planning and implementation for key District initiatives, marketing, & branding

  • Primary spokesperson for the Poway Unified School District, develops all key messaging, and drives and develops all media relationships

  • Serves on the Executive Cabinet as the chief communications advisor to the Superintendent, Cabinet members, Board of Education trustees, and District leadership

  • Responsible for all aspects of Superintendent’s internal and external communications to stakeholders

  • Trains and builds capacity within District leadership to improve and maintain strong communication

  • Leads all crisis communications response, including during the closure and reopening of schools during the pandemic, as well as during the activation of the District’s Emergency Operations Center

  • Plans and facilitates public events and stakeholder engagement opportunities

  • Kept leadership abreast of current trends and research pertinent to the work of public school districts

  • Implemented a more collaborative approach to communications, building relationships across departments in the District

  • Created the District's first student media internship program in partnership with the Career Technical Education department to engage high school students in PUSD's storytelling efforts

  • Led award-winning responses to crisis communications, including during the shooting at a local synagogue and the controversial visit of the former Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos

Christine transformed communications for the District to a more proactive, stakeholder-centered approach, building trust and turning around the District's relationship with key stakeholders, including the local media.

 

  • Implemented innovative and exciting ways to tell Poway Unified School District's story via multiple channels, including social media platforms, videos, live streams, podcasts, and more.

  • Planned, developed, coordinated and implemented daily communication and public relations activities for internal and external audiences such as newsletters, press releases, website, and social media

Anchor/Reporter,
ABC 30 (KFSN-TV)

Christine co-anchored Action News Midday at 11am and Live at 4pm. She was also the Consumer and Business Reporter for Action News.

  • Part of the founding anchor team that originated the 4pm newscast, pioneering the use of social media and viewer interaction live on air

  • Enterprised unique and relevant business and consumer-focused stories to increase ratings

  • Awarded six regional Emmy awards for her news reporting and anchoring on Action News AM Live and Midday newscasts

  • Emceed fundraising events that resulted in hundreds of thousands of dollars raised for non-profit partners such as Valley Children's Hospital and the Marjoree Mason Center
